</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Being announced as a game-time decision 48 hours in advance means that he is either in real bad shape, or it's a premature announcement with no real bearing on the situation. Andrei Kirilenko lasted just 18 minutes in Saturday's game due to his back issue, and Miles could be in line for extra minutes and touches in the Jazz's four-game week. Stay tuned.

"I'm doing better," said Nowitzki. "Hopefully it'll be sometime next week (when he returns to action). We'll have to wait and see." The Mavs have three home games next week, starting on Tuesday and Thursday, so hopefully there will be a positive report prior to weekly lineup deadlines.

Anderson Varejao - F/C - Cavaliers

Anderson Varejao will miss Sunday's game with a broken cheek bone, while Mo Williams and Daniel Gibson remain questionable.
The Cavs are waiting for his cheek bone swelling to dissipate so that he can be fitted with a mask. He's targeting a return on Wednesday. Williams (groin) and Gibson (thigh) are questionable today against the Mavericks. Jan. 2 - 11:57 a.m. ET

Gerald Wallace - F - Bobcats

Gerald Wallace left Sunday's practice with what could be a severe lower left leg injury.
Wallace went down on a drive to the hoop and didn't move for 10 minutes, apparently writhing in pain. He was eventually carried off by teammates Stephen Jackson and Nazr Mohammed, unable to put weight on his leg. He recently missed five games with a severely sprained left ankle, and it looks like a strong possibility that he aggravated that injury. Jan. 2 - 1:38 p.m. ET

Caron Butler - G/F - Mavericks

Caron Butler appears to have at least a partial tear of the patella tendon in his right knee, which would sideline him for at least two months.
A person with direct knowledge of the initial diagnosis told ESPNDallas.com's Tim MacMahon that Butler likely suffered at least a partial tear, but if it's turns out to be a full tear, he would miss the rest of the season. MRI results should be released some time on Sunday evening. J.J. Barea and Shawn Marion, who missed Saturday with a hamstring injury, will both see a boost in value once Butler's diagnosis is made official. Jan. 2 - 2:05 p.m. ET

Rudy Gay - F - Grizzlies

Rudy Gay (flu) is expected to play Sunday night when the Grizzlies face the Lakers.
Gay missed Saturday night's game against the Jazz but Laker staff expect to see Gay suited up at tip-off. There has been no word from Memphis staff, so check back just to be safe. Jan. 2 - 4:34 p.m. ET
